About
I founded DelaRain Art Collection to continue a legacy that began half a century earlier.
The story starts with my grandmother, Carmel Delatour, who opened Rainbow Art Gallery in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1972. The gallery served as a vibrant hub where acclaimed Haitian artists gathered to exhibit their work. She carefully selected and curated each piece, a tradition that became the foundation of my family's deep connection to Haitian art.
My father, Lionel Delatour, later carried the torch, organizing art shows for many years at Watergate Gallery in Washington, D.C. His dedication to showcasing Haitian talent inspired me to build an online space where our family's treasured collection could continue to reach new audiences.
The name DelaRain pays homage to my grandmother: "Dela" for our family name Delatour, and "Rain" for Rainbow Art Gallery, which she founded. This collection includes pieces of renowned Haitian artists such as Tiga, Charles Obas, Laurent Casimir, Dieudonne Cedor, Jean Adrien Seide, and Franketienne, who has been featured in the New York Times.
Through DelaRain, I continue my family's journey of celebrating the soul of Haitian art. Each piece tells a story of culture, resilience, and beauty -- an enduring reflection of my grandmother's vision and the country’s vibrant creative spirit. She passed during the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, but her passion and dedication to art remain a constant source of inspiration.
